Zomba City Council has embarked on the second phase of a maize distribution exercise to families that were affected by El Nino weather last year.

According to the council, the second phase will benefit over 7,000 people in Mpira and Likangala wards, among others.

Chief Executive Officer for Zomba City Council, Archangel Bakolo, cautioned beneficiaries to desist from selling the donation.

“There is a tendency to sell the maize we are distributing. We would like to strongly discourage the selling of the maize. If one is found, they will be removed from the beneficiary list of any donation,” cautioned Bakolo.

Commenting on the matter, Group Village Headman Mgomeza said chiefs will work hand in hand with community policing to ensure that the donation is being used for its intended purpose.

“We will work hand in hand with all leaders and community police to ensure that nobody sells the maize to vendors in our community,” explained Mgomeza.
