Malawi national team coach, Calisto Pasuwa, regrets the 65th-minute red card brandished against Lloyd Aaron as the cause of the implosion that saw Tunisia score two goals in the closing stages of the game.
Seiffedine Jaziri scored in the 86th minute after Flames succumbed to relentless pressure before Elias Achouri scored the second goal from the spot.
Pasuwa said, “They could not manage to break through us. We were solid defensively, but after getting a red card, we had some problems withstanding the pressure.”
Statistics show the Flames had a better first half before the red card as Malawi fired two shots on target, with Tunisia registering a single shot on target.
In addition, Williams Thole only made a single save the whole first half.
After Aaron received the second yellow card for a second bookable offence following a tactical foul, Tunisia turned on the style, registering nine shots on target and seven corners as the Flames failed to force any corners against the hosts in the second half.
Tunisia have collected 16 points and lead the group while the Flames sit fifth with six points.
