The Director General of the Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (MACRA), Daud Suleman, has encouraged students of the University of Malawi to be conversant with digital rights as the world is advancing technologically.

Suleman said this on Friday at the university where he was delivering a public lecture focusing on digital rights under the theme “Open discussion on digital rights: The law, the technology, and the myths”.

The Director General said the lecture was part of MACRA’s drive to shape a digital Malawi and applauded the participants for a provoking debate.

“The academia is an important stakeholder in advancing digital technology. That is why we thought of holding this lecture today on digital rights,” Suleman said.

The Head of the Computing Department at the university, Dr Kondwani Munthali, said the university trains students on how to use the internet responsibly.

“Mostly, we conduct awareness campaigns on digital rights and we also train the students on how to safeguard themselves on the internet,” Munthali said.
