The Southern Region Water Board (SRWB) has announced plans to sensitise its customers on responsible water usage and conservation, aiming to maintain a steady supply until the next rainy season.

SRWB Spokesperson, Rita Makwangwala, said the water levels in Mulunguzi Dam, which is the main water source for Zomba and surrounding areas, had dropped significantly two months ago but have since improved, thanks to recent rains.

“The water levels in Mulunguzi Dam were very low, and we are grateful for the rains that have helped raise them. However, we urge all our customers to use water sparingly so that the current reserves can sustain us until the next rainy season,” said Makwangwala.

In addition to public sensitisation, SRWB is collaborating with various stakeholders to conserve the Mulunguzi Dam catchment area through tree planting initiatives.
