Standard Bank has donated K25 million towards the University of Malawi (UNIMA) Theatre Festival which is scheduled for this weekend.
Speaking on Friday during the handover ceremony of the cheque in Zomba, Tamanda Ng’ombe, Head of Brand and Marketing for Standard Bank said arts, music and culture is one way of growing tourism in the country which can bring foreign currency.
“How we brand our country is very important for the growth of Malawi. So Standard Bank sees this as important as well that’s why for the second year running we are sponsoring the UNIMA Theatre Festival,” explained Ng’ombe.
Vice Chancellor for UNIMA Professor Samson Sajidu said the donation is an indication of the good relationship that UNIMA has with industry players.
According to Sajidu, the Festival is also part of a practical way of teaching as well as nurturing the youth in realising Malawi 2063 goals in terms of economic development through arts.
The festival, which will run for three days from Friday 21 November to Sunday 23 November, will feature activities such as drama, dances, poetry and music performances.
